Stephen Sadler, DDS

Diplomate, American Board of Pediatric Dentistry

Dr. Stephen Sadler grew up outside of Salt Lake City, Utah.  He spent his early summers waterskiing and camping and winters snow skiing in the surrounding mountains.  Dr. Sadler completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Utah. While in school he worked for the University as a tutor for undergraduate students in mathematics, physics, and chemistry.  He earned his Bachelor of Science degree with honors before continuing onto dental school at the University of California, San Francisco. While in dental school he became active in promoting the oral health of children by organizing dental education and prevention programs for schools and community health fairs.  He also assisted in researching the characteristics of oral cancer and was a co-author of two published articles as well as received the Pierre Fauchard Academy award for academic excellence and achievement as a graduating senior.

Following graduation from dental school, Dr. Sadler completed his pediatric specialty residency at St. Joseph’s Hospital for Specialty Care in Providence, Rhode Island.  There he gained extensive experience in treating all children with particular expertise in non-invasive preventive care, treatment utilizing sedation, and management of traumatic injuries.  Dr. Sadler is a strong believer in prevention over intervention and strives to work with all his families as a partner to help his patients enjoy a lifetime of healthy, happy smiles.

Dr. Sadler is married to his wife Lindsay and together they have three children.  He enjoys snow skiing with his family, attempting home improvement projects, and playing and teaching guitar.

Why a Pediatric Dentist?

Pediatric Dentists receive two to three years of specialized training following their graduation from dental school. This training includes extensive experience in patient education and prevention of dental caries (cavities), evaluating growth patterns and evaluation for orthodontic problems, as well as utilizing behavior management and sedation techniques with anxious or apprehensive children. Our staff is also specifically trained to make the office a welcoming environment where children feel comfortable returning to again and again.

First Visit

The American Association of Pediatric Dentistry recommends children are seen by a dentist when the first tooth erupts or by their first birthday, whichever comes first.

Please contact the office to schedule your initial visit. During this visit we will compile a thorough medical history and address any questions or concerns. Our staff will work with your child to introduce them to the dental experience in a gentle and welcoming manner.

Some very young children may be nervous about their first visit to the dentist. This is completely normal and expected. Some patients respond well to practicing a visit to the dentist at home. This can be done by having the child lie down and have a parent play the role of the dentist with gloves, mask, flashlights, etc. If you do not have masks or gloves at home, please feel free to contact our office and we will happy to provide them for you. There are also popular children’s television shows with excellent dentist episodes. Peppa Pig and Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood have wonderful dentist themed episodes.

Sometimes, even with all this preparation children may be too young or too anxious to sit in the dental chair by themselves. In these scenarios the child will remain in the caregiver’s lap and the visit will be completed utilizing the “knee to knee” approach with the doctor and parent facing each other and the child resting on the parent’s and doctor’s knees.
