Dr. Atherton and his staff welcome your infants, children and adolescents into his practice. Our goal is to provide a comfortable and enjoyable office setting by taking the time to get to know your child and cater to their needs, such as letting your child pick out their favorite flavor of fluoride treatment or, taking extra time to explain a procedure to you and your child. We want to provide you with the best service possible. Dr. Atherton’s philosophy is that by providing the best dental care and education for each patient he or she will take an active interest in their own oral health!
The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends that parents have an initial examination for their infants by their first birthday. This visit will give parents an opportunity to ask about the care of baby’s teeth and establish a familiar environment for the child as they get older. See Services – Child’s First Visit. Early examination and preventative care will protect your child’s smile now and in the future.
Children and Adolescents
Dr. Atherton recommends bi-yearly preventative checkups for children and adolescents. During these years children and teens can experience dental injuries. Please call the office number for instructions regarding emergencies. For more information see Emergencies. Dr. Atherton will see children up to 18 years of age. At this time, the patient will “graduate” from his practice to a general dentist.
Special Needs and Behavior Cases
As a pediatric dental specialist, Dr. Atherton, has had over 2 years of training beyond dental school to accommodate the care of children that have special needs, behavioral difficulties, dental fears and medical complications. This may include individualized behavior management, conscious sedation, or general anesthesia. Sedation techniques are implemented only when necessary, not as a routine practice
